Champs record! Jaheel Hyde breaks national junior record in 400m hurdles

Jaheel Hyde of Wolmer’s Boys produced a smashing performance to break the national junior record in the Boys’ 400-metre hurdles on today’s fourth and penultimate day of the 2014 Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships.

Hyde won in 49.49 seconds to become the second junior athlete to break the 50-second barrier in the event.

At the finish, Hyde was well ahead the St Elizabeth pair of Marvin Williams , 51.18 seconds and Okeen Williams, 51.62.

Omar McLeod of Kingston College was the first Jamaican junior athlete to break the 50-second barrier. McLeod clocked 49.98 seconds at last year’s championships.
